Lewis River Country : In November, 2002 the Olympia Camera Club, led by Frank Townsend visited the Lewis River area in Southern Washington State. The river has several very photogenic waterfalls and the vine maples were quite dramatic.

Bamboo : There is something about bamboo, with its delicacy, strength, grace and mystery that has long intrigued me. We have fifteen different varieties of it on our property and many of these photos are from our plants. Others are from Yashiro Garden here in Olympia, Bamboo Gardens in Redmond, WA, Bamboo Garden Nursery in Hillsboro, OR, the Pipiwai Trail on Maui and Quail Botanical Gardens in Encenitas, CA. Most of the earlier images were shot on 35mm Ilford 3200 B&W film and scanned, however since moving to a digital camera, the rest are direct digital capture using a Nikon D70 or D90.

McLane Creek Nature Trail : McLane Creek Nature Trail is a Washington State DNR site west of Olympia, Washington. The area consists of a series of beaver ponds built on McLane Creek which is an active salmon stream. There are trails through surrounding coniferous forest, deciduous woods, open areas, marshes, and swamps. This is a small, intimate landscape for viewing and photographing. In the Fall and Winter there is often fog which makes for some moody moments.

Palouse Washington May 2008 : These were taken between May 17 and May 21, 2008 on a trip that Bonnie and I made to Palouse country in Southeastern Washington with the Olympia Camera Club. We also went into a bit of Idaho and spent time in northeastern Oregon on the Grand Ronde River. Great trip, great weather and beautiful skies - at least for the first couple of days.

Maui, Jan/Feb 2009 : At the end of January, 2009 Bonnie and I traveled to Maui and stayed upcountry near Makawao. One principal goal was to hike in the crater atop the Haleakala volcano. We hiked there in fog and rain which made it very mysterious and moody. Later in the trip we went again for the fabled sunrise and to photograph in a little better weather. As always, the most interesting things were those we didn't expect. In particular, the unearthly landscapes around Dragon's Teeth and the Nakalele blowhole on the northern tip of West Maui had me pretty stunned. A trip around the southern part of the island on the Pililani highway also provided unexpected views of the size and majesty of that side of the island. Enjoy.

Next Level Group Photos : During the Spring of 2009 my friend, Rick Sandler suggested forming a group of photographers who would use George Barr's Book "Taking Your Photography To The Next Level" as a guide for improving our photography. 2001 Zion National Park : These images were made in Zion National Park in Utah, USA the last two weeks in October 2001. This was a trip which celebrated Bonnie's recent retirement and gave me a chance to propose marriage. "Are you serious?" was her first response. All images were taken on 35mm Kodak Ektachrome E100-VS transparency film. Scanning was done on an Epson Perfection V700 Photo flatbed scanner in 2012. Cameras used were a Nikon F4s for images through the 0492 series and a Nikon N60 from series 0493 and above.
